BIBA welcomes a new President and Board of directors

The Barbados International Business Association, (trading as BIBA, the Association for Global Business) has welcomed a new President and Board of directors to lead the organisation over the coming year.

At its virtual Annual General Meeting held June 29, a new 12-member board was elected and Jamar Arthur-Selman, General Manager of Centralis (Barbados) Ltd. was confirmed as its Chair and new President of BIBA.

Following his confirmation, Mr. Arthur-Selman identified a number of priority areas on which he would focus his attention and that of the new board over the next 12 months. He said BIBA would increase its efforts to ensure global business can be conducted effectively, efficiently, and profitably in and from Barbados while assisting in synchronising the goals, actions and plans of the various public/private sector working groups focused on the business development and marketing of Barbados.

He added that BIBA intended to contribute significantly to updating key pieces of legislation that govern the sector to ensure the legal foundation on which the sector is built is modern and adaptable. Included in this would be plans to lobby and agitate for faster consolidation of the laws of Barbados for ease of reference by operators in the sector, interested international parties, and the general public of Barbados; and for increased ease of access to these laws through one trusted source to access all current legislation to help with the ease of doing business.

He also lamented the lack of accurate and consolidated sources for statistics related to the global business sector and said that obtaining this would be another priority area.

Mr. Arthur-Selman is also the Barbados Branch Manager of CN Liquidity Management Switzerland AG. He is an Attorney-at-Law, business executive, and accredited director with 12 years of experience in the practice of corporate law, international tax, company management, and corporate governance, including seven years’ experience as Chief Executive Officer of a large corporate and trust service provider in Barbados. He also has five years’ experience as a Compliance Officer and two years of related sales and marketing experience.

Mr. Arthur-Selman is joined on the board by First Vice President Mr. Marlon Yarde of the Barbados Stock Exchange; Second Vice President Ms. Glenna Smith of Smith Compliance Consulting; Treasurer Ms. Sabrina Maynard of Clarke Gittens Farmer Attorneys-at-Law; Secretary Ms. Joanna Austin of Lex Caribbean Attorneys-at-Law. Returning to the Board as Directors are Mr. Ross Parker of PricewaterhouseCoopers; Ms. Connie Smith of Tricor Caribbean; Mr. Ricardo Knight of Marsh Captive Solutions; and Ms. Lana Fingall of Scotiabank’s Offshore Banking Unit. Joining the BIBA board for the first time are Ms. Dionne Knight of Manufacturers P&C (Manulife Re), Ms. Ayesha Maycock of SigniaGlobe Financial, and Mr. Stephen Robinson of Sagicor Life Inc. Mr. Derrick Cummins of Amicorp Bank & Trust will serve on the board in an ex-officio capacity as immediate past president.
