The Reinsurance Accounting Manager is a senior member of the reinsurance team providing technical leadership, direction, and management over core reinsurance accounting responsibilities. The successful candidate will be both hands-on and strategic in developing other team members to meet the rapid growth and development of Trisura’s US-based business, Trisura Specialty Insurance Company (TSIC).

The Reinsurance Accounting Manager has responsibility for delivering reinsurance accounting for inclusion in external financial reporting. Working closely with TSIC’s reinsurance leadership and other business leaders, this expert will oversee various aspects of monthly reinsurance accounting and reporting. Other responsibilities include liaising and coordinating with internal and external auditors, preparing annual and quarterly statutory filings, and reviewing and analyzing internal management reports for the executive leadership, and generally backing up the reinsurance leadership team.

Other specific responsibilities will include, as follows:
• Oversee accounting for ceded and assumed premium and losses, including proper allocation of receipts and disbursements to complex reinsurance panels with multiple reinsurers;
• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, including preparation of Schedule F for inclusion in the statutory filings;
• Ensure reinsurance recoverables are collected timely and properly aged;
• Perform reconciliations between the GL and subledgers, including confirmation and settlement of intercompany balances;
• Analyze financial results and provide explanations for unusual or unexpected movements, presenting results to CFO and CAO;
• Coordinate with the Reinsurance Collateral and Reporting team to ensure external reporting to reinsurers reconciles with accounting records;
• Design and maintain efficient and effective control environment, including ensuring all balances are properly supported and reconciled;
• Work with internal and external auditors to ensure efficient and timely year-end audit and quarterly reviews;
• Manage, coach, and develop accounting staff
• Collaborate with all areas of the company, including reinsurance, underwriting, and actuarial, as well as other departments, to support overall corporate goals and objectives;
• Identify, propose, and implement process improvements;
• Maintain a thorough understanding of the company’s accounting systems, reinsurance system, and other systems as required; and participate in the development and implementation of new system processes and workflows to ensure a high level of accuracy with respect to financial reporting.

Qualifications and Skills
• 5 to 7 years in the financial reporting area, ideally in a financial services environment;
• Technical acumen and accounting expertise, ideally a certified accountant with top-tier public accounting/audit background;
• Experience with multiple types of reinsurance agreements;
• Strong organizational and planning skills, with demonstrated project management skills and proven track record of meeting strict deadlines while staying within budget constraints;
• Skilled in Microsoft Suite; proficient in complex accounting systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance;
• ACCA/CPA Certification and continuing Professional Education (CPE) requirements;
• Advanced knowledge of professional accounting software.
