BIBA Tax Committee Bulletin on the Protocol amending the Barbados-Canada Double Taxation Agreement

Canada and Barbados, on November 8, 2011 signed a Protocol Amending the Canada – Barbados Tax Agreement. The original Double Taxation Agreement (“DTA”) came into Force on December 22, 1980. BIBA Tax Committee Bulletin on Recent Barbados TIEA Signing

This Bulletin discussed the recent announcement by the Barbados government that it had initialled Tax Information Exchange Agreements (“TIEAs”) with Denmark and its dependencies Greenland and the Faroe Islands despite Barbados' stated preference for signing double taxation agreements over TIEAs.

BIBA Q4 2010 - Newsletter

The last quarter of 2010 was one of varied experiences for Barbados and the international business sector. We were faced in October with the sudden death of Prime Minister David Thompson while in office, plus the adversity wrought by being hit by one of the most costly natural disasters to affect Barbados within the past decade. Against that background and the concomitant challenges, BIBA and its strategic partners were still able to stage the second International Business Week, which in fact stretched its activities from the end of October to the middle of November to accommodate the events postponed on account of Prime Minister Thompson’s passing and the passage of tropical storm (later hurricane) Tomas. BIBA Charity Trustee Report February 2011

The Charity’s main objective through to 2012 is public healthcare in Barbados, and these funds will be used to make a donation of at least 4 vital signs monitors to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Dr Dexter James at the QEH has indicated that the Accident & Emergency department is sorely in need of this equipment, and we are in the process of having those ordered and delivered to the hospital.
