The Barbados International Business Association (BIBA) headquartered in Bridgetown Barbados has expanded its presence by opening a chapter association in Canada. At the inaugural meeting of BIBA-Canada, held on Aug 30th, 2010 in Toronto Canada, the following were appointed as directors of the new Chapter: Thomas C. Sears (Chairman), Dave Thomas, Alison Manzer (Secretary) and Ken Campbell.

This article was provided by request to the Barbados Business Authority for the July 4, 2011, edition, which dealt with the question of what should be the focus of the 2011 Budget presentation scheduled for August. BIBA suggested that it would be in government’s best interest to deliver a Budget containing measures to generate more business activity, which in turn can lead to more job creation, more tax revenues and other economic benefits.

BIBA is strong supporter of appropriate ‘right-sized’ legislation that does not impose a cost of compliance out of keeping with our market size and resource capacity. However, we are concerned that the Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (Prevention and Control) Bill currently in its draft form, well intended as it is, could unnecessarily diminish Barbados’ ability to attract new business and could indeed drive away some existing business.
