A new board of directors has been elected to oversee the ongoing development of the Barbados International Business Association (BIBA) and its contributions to Barbados’ economic and social landscape for the next year.
The new board was elected at the BIBA annual general meeting, which was held on June 27, 2008, at the Yacht Club on Bay Street, St Michael. The executive members are: Lisl Lewis, President; John Howard, 1st Vice President; David Thomas, 2nd Vice President; Keisha Hyde, Secretary; and Mohammed Patel, Treasurer.
The other directors are: Andrew Alleyne, Liza Harridyal Sodha, Kaye Williams, Peter Walford, Nicholas Crichlow, Elliot Sachar, Chris Evans, David Wright, Stephen Greaves, Tyson Thompson, and Wayne Fields.
Lewis expressed pleasure at being elected as the organisation’s new president and pledged to fulfil the mandate previously set by her predecessors of continuing to build awareness within the wider Barbadian community of the importance of the international business sector to the island. She highlighted BIBA’s schools outreach initiative and the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding between BIBA and the University of the West Indies as two measures that would be strongly supported over her tenure. Lewis further added that she would she support any attempts by the new Government to market the sector abroad and encourage further utilisation of Barbados’ wide and expanding tax treaty network.
As he demitted office, her predecessor Ricardo Knight expressed confidence that Lewis and the new executive would advance BIBA’s successes. He also expressed pride at the BIBA’s achievements over the 2007-2008 year, including: BIBA’s role in the release by Government’s International Business Unit of an International Business Customer Charter; BIBA’s school and community outreach efforts; the growing popularity of the organisation’s monthly business luncheons; and the development of a survey to aid Government in assessing the contribution of the international business sector to Barbados
