The staging of a two-day tax conference in Barbados next week by one of the world’s leading legal publishing and knowledge resource firms is further testament to Barbados’ reputation as a well regulated jurisdiction in international circles.

This was the opinion expressed by President of the Barbados International Business Association (BIBA), John Howard as he welcomed the LexisNexis conference to the island.

“That LexisNexis UK has chosen Barbados as the venue for its International Tax and Trust Planning conference on March 1 and 2, further underscores the importance of Barbados being named as the first independent Caribbean nation to land itself on the ‘white list’ of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) last April,” said Howard.

Furthermore, Howard added that with its audience of international tax and trust advisers comprised of accountants, lawyers, wealth advisers, private bankers and fiduciaries drawn from the Caribbean, Britain and wider Europe, the United States and Canada, the conference would provide Barbados with an unsurpassed platform from which to sell its unique advantages to those “gatekeepers” who were crucial to the investment decisions of the types of investors that Barbados is actively pursuing.

The conference, which will be held at the Hilton Barbados includes BIBA among its list of regional and international sponsors. Topics covered will be “International Planning Opportunities and Challenges”on the first day and “Managing the Challenges and Maximising the New Opportunities for Offshore Tax Planning” on the second. Conference speakers will discuss the international tax challenges resulting from legislative changes in the UK and North America and the planning tools and opportunities for tax efficient investing in Barbados and other Caribbean jurisdictions.
