BIBA donates lawnmower to residential care unit

Sterling Children’s Home is now the proud recipient of a new lawnmower thanks to the Barbados International Business Association (BIBA) Charity.

Last November, the BIBA Charity organised volunteers from the wider international business community to assist in clearing the grounds and to treat the children to a fun-day with a catered lunch and games. This formed part of the International Business Week 2010 activities. It was at that point that officials of the home let the visitors know that keeping the lawns maintained was an arduous task without a working lawnmower. This led to a commitment by the BIBA Charity to resolve that problem, and specific donations from BIBA members made the purchase possible.

During the hand-over of the lawnmower, Lisl Lewis, Trustee Chair of the Charity, said that the organisation was pleased to be able to maintain their connection with the Sterling home through making the small but necessary donation. She also expressed pleasure that the home had continued the debushing effort started last November and was well on its way to making a section of the previously overgrown grounds into a vegetable garden and a recreation/relaxation area. Lewis assured that the BIBA Charity would incorporate the home into its activities again this year. House Mother on duty that day Carolyn Hoyte said she was thrilled with the donation of the lawnmower and expressed a desire to put it to work as soon as possible.

The BIBA Charity was established in March, 2010 to provide an easy conduit for members of the international business community to give back to the society of Barbados. The goal of the charity is to provide a simple mechanism for BIBA members, their clients and the wider Barbadian public to give to institutions, other entities and individuals who are actively serving a broad segment of Barbadian society and require funding. The Charity is registered under the Barbados Charities Act and donations made to the Charity are tax deductible for corporate donors.
