Paul Brummell, British High Commissioner to Barbados is optimistic that as this country move out of recession, investors from the UK will be alive and alert to the rich investment opportunities in Barbados.
The British official indicated that there are positive signals with regards to bilateral relationship with the UK and Barbados. “We are seeing an increase in the number of scheduled flights for example on British Airways and on Virgin Atlantic,” the British official said.
“I have not seen any specific data about foreign direct investment coming in from the UK, but these trends such as increased flights tend to be accompanied by more positive news on the investment front which has been very slow in the economic downturn,” he remarked.
Brummell added, “ the relationship with the UK and Barbados is extremely strong and positive and the ties remain close.
“It is a good and warm relationship and Barbados remains the destination of choice for the UK.”
According to him, “the data for the first few months of the years is positive as oppose to last year, of course more progress in possible but Barbados remains an attractive destination which is shown as the number of repeat visitors remains high.”
He suggested that the tourism market globally is very competitive.
There are a lot of destinations and places around the world to attract those tourists, he said while noting that the market has increasingly become more competitive, with emerging destinations.
“Therefore, Barbados needs to focus on ensuring that its tourist product is up to date and service standards are at the very best,” he added.
