The Barbados International Financial & Business (BIFB) 2016 edition is now available.

Currently in its eighth year, the magazine, a publication of Invest Barbados, caters to the international business and financial services industry, offering insightful articles in the areas of international business, international insurance, wealth management and on other business opportunities available in Barbados.

The 2016 edition is particularly significant, as it coincides with Barbados’ 50th year of nationhood.  In this regard, the magazine features a message from the Rt. Hon. Freundel J. Stuart, Q.C., M.P., Prime Minister of Barbados, highlighting the development of Barbados over the past 50 years, from a jurisdiction primarily dependent on the sugar industry to one in which the international business and financial services sector plays a significant role in Barbados’ economy.

He noted that “the passage of the International Business Companies Act in 1965 was our first effort at encouraging foreign investors to establish operations in Barbados.  Since then we have diversified our product offering and have been steadily expanding the number of foreign entities that have chosen to improve their competitive advantage by establishing operations in Barbados.”

The Prime Minister further emphasised Barbados’ success as resulting “largely from the value proposition that characterises the island as a unique domicile of choice for treaty-based businesses of substance…”

In his message, he reiterated the goals which Barbados has set for itself: “to become a developed country; to become the most environmentally advanced green country in Latin America and the Caribbean; to become the International Financial and Wealth Management Centre of Choice in the Western Hemisphere, and also to be the entrepreneurial capital of the Caribbean.” He concluded, “The international business and financial services sector will undoubtedly see us through to another fifty successful years and beyond.”

Several noted contributors in the industry have provided a range of informative articles, as well as real-life case studies about companies that have successfully set up businesses in Barbados.
