On 29th June 2017, the Barbados Branch of STEP – part of the global professional association for practitioners who specialise in family inheritance and succession planning – held its 20th Annual General Meeting at the Barbados Yacht Club.
During the AGM, the members of the Branch elected a new Executive Committee led by Ms. Tara Frater, Partner of Lex Caribbean Attorneys-at-law as Chairperson and Ms. Arlene Ross, Vice President-Trust and Corporate Services of DGM Financial Group as Vice Chairperson.
Ms. Frater, who previously served on the Executive Committee as Programme Coordinator and Vice Chairperson, noted “It is with a deep sense of duty and commitment that I take up the role of Chairperson of the STEP Barbados Branch. We are indeed facing challenging times as a sector and I am resolved to give my best in protecting our interests – which are aligned with those of Barbados, as a country.”
In outlining her initiatives for the upcoming term, Ms. Frater observed that, “Barbados as a jurisdiction must reinvent itself in order to remain relevant and competitive in the current global order. Professionals in the service sector must play a key role in articulating and pursuing the changes required in the context of legislative reform and business facilitation and thereby secure vital revenue for the country. We are happy to partner with relevant organisations and centres of influence, in order to achieve these objectives.”
Ms. Frater is the successor of Mrs. Amanda Lashley, Vice President of Trust Services at Cidel Bank & Trust. Mrs. Lashley is the Immediate Past Chairperson and will continue to chair the Steering Committee for the STEP Caribbean Conference, which is scheduled to be held in Barbados between 7th – 9th May 2018. The STEP Caribbean Conference is a premier conference which attracts delegates from the region, the U.S. and Latin America as well as further afield. STEP CC18 will provide an educational and networking forum for international family business and private wealth management business sectors. In relation to the conference Mrs. Lashley noted that “the conference would afford our jurisdiction the much needed opportunity to showcase to an international audience; our modern technological infrastructure, highly competent workforce and product offering which is known throughout the world for its substance.”
The other members of the new Executive Committee are Amanda Lashley (Cidel Bank & Trust), Darren Stark (Anchor Counsel Corporation), Eveliny Forde (Total Asset Management Services, Ltd), Lynne-Marie Simmons (Heritage Chambers), Marcelle Correia and Jacqueline Inniss (J&T Bank & Trust), Peter Chase (Chancery Chambers), Neal Griffith (Blue Financial Group), Linda Stelling (Trident Corporate Services (Barbados) Limited), Roland Jones (Axebridge Group), and Trevor Burke (Amicorp Barbados).
